DRAMATIC TRAGEDY AT TOULON.

A' terrible crime has just been committed* at Toulon. After the first act of the " Petite Mariee," which was being played at the Toulon Theatre on Tuesday night, the conductor of the orchestra, M. Aubergat, left his seat, and proceeded without warning anyone to the apartment of Madame Lery, situated in the Rue Croix. Aubergat had long been paying his addresses to her, but exactly what passed between them on this occasion is not known. The : neighr bonrs heard high words and and then:a pistol shot. It seems, however, lthat.no one thought it worth while to go and see what was being done till some little time afterwards when some people arrived from the theatre to ascertain Lery, who was to have played that night, had not made her , appearauce. The neighbours and the theatrical, people then burst open . her door, and found the unfortunate actress lying dead in a pool of blood. She had -been Shot through the heart. Aubergat was not there. He had fled, arid, probably, not knowing how to escape the:penalty he deserved for the murder he had committed, he directed his steps towards the level.rail way crossing in the Escaillon quarter of the town, and threw himself in front of the express train from) Marseilles. 'He was not crushed by the train/ but was caught up by the iron wheel guard and pushed along in front of thcengine for a distance of four kilos metres—that 'is to say, till the express was stopped at the Toulon station. The condition of Aubergat's : body was hor-: rible to the last degree; It' was 1 almost naked, and terribly mutilated. • The-line from the Escaillon crossing to the station was literally strewed with portions of tho man's : clothings pieces of his flesh, his'heart, etc;, and also the pistol with which he had murdered Madarie Lery. :The sensation caused at the theatre when the murder of the actress wias'made known was -very- painful.;
