AS a SUMMER RETREAT not one amonjf the SANATORIA of Now Zealand is so rapidly becoming famous as TE AROHA. The celebrity of its HOT SPRINGS is extending throughout the length and breadth of the Colony, and the WONDERFUL CURES. effected by the Waters in cases of RHEUMATISM, GOUT, LUMBAGO, LIVER, AND KIDNEY COMPLAINTS, INDIGESTION, and Kindred Ailments, are gratefully testified to in the Visitors' Book by Hundreds of Persons who by their use have been i estored to Health and all its enjoyments. The place is par excellence the Sanatorium of the People. The CLIMATE in its HEALTH-GIVING PROPERTIES is unsurpassed ; the COST OF LIVING is exceedingly MODERATE ; and the 'locality is easy ot access by river, rail, or road, from Auckland and the Thames. In addition to these advantages there arc for the Robust abundant means of enjoyment in Boating, Riding, and Driving, while for those in delicate health the neatly laid out Domain forms a most pleasant resort. The fallowing analysis of the Waters by Mr J. A. Pond, Colonial Analyst, and the accompanying extracts from his report thereon to the Domain Board, will be read with interest. The Samples were taken from the Springs, as numbered, the. temperatures of which ranged from 105degs. to 119de.iS.Fahr:— to » Analysis. o £ oU __ _ _ fl ' Sulphate of Lime 2,959 2.22S .959 Sulphate ol magnesia 378 .336 GO2 Sulphate of potash :■ 10.293 " 9.800 10.794 Sulphate of soda .27.540 28.050 2f..438 Chloride of sodium 73.514 72.072 77.74S Bi-carbonate of soda 728.737 098.513 052.123 Carbonate of ammonia 3.550 .112 .9SO Carbonate of iron .042 ,003 .042 Carbonate oflithia (heavy (heavy (heavy traces) traces) traces) Phosphate of soda 2.003 2.203 1.096 Phosphate of alumina .143 .023 .470 Silica 8,508 5.773 5.77S Sulphuretted hydrogen traces traces traces 857,829 822,184 811,702 Results expressed in grains per gallon. These Waters arc all feebly alkaline and strongly charged with carbonic acid gas, which is constantly escaping from the Springs in large quantities. Ths Lithia. a valuable constituent of these' Waters, is present in an appreciable quantity. The Analyses show _ these_ Springs to be very similar in composition. These Mineral Waters are exceedingly interesting, and will prove of great value medicinally. They closely resemble some of the European Mineral Springs so justly celebrated, more especially those _ of Vichy, Ems, and Eachingcn. Their Curative Value will be greatest in Rheumatic and ArthEritic Diseases', Calculus, Affections ot the Kidneys, and Dyspepsia. You may rest assured that all you can do for your Springs in the shape'of improving the facilities for their use, is entirely ustified by the character of the water;
