[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Supposed Infanticide. Auckland, Monday Night. A newly-born female child was found lying in Hardinge-street on Sunday night. The police are inquiring, but so far without success. Electoral. It is stated that Mr James Mackay will contest Auckland North. Mr Mitchelson's determination to stand again for Marsden will probably force Mr Dargaville back to Auckland West. The Trunk Line. Mr Andrew Anderson, of Christchurch, contractor for the Waiteti section of the Trunk Railway, was a passenger by the steamer Wairarapa to-day. Mr Anderson will leave for Waikato at the end of the week with a view of commencing operations. State of Father Fynes. Father Fynes is steadily sinking. There is no hope of recovery. Sale of Yearlings. A sale took place to-day at Sylvia Park of a number of yearlings, the property of W, Adams. The animals ottered were five in number, and well-bred, the auctioneers being Hunter and Nolan, Mr Philson representing that firm. A black colt by Musket out of Lady Ravensworth started at 100gs., and at 220gs. fell to the bid of Jacob Enkn ; a chestnut colt by Leolinus out of Lovebird rose from 1.00 to 310g5., at which price he was knocked down to W. Raymond ; a chestnut filly by Leolinus out of Miss Laura fetched (iOgs., and was bought by D. L. Hunt; a brown colt by Piscatorious out of Patch, 80gs., W. Bobbctt; a brown colt by Cap-a-pie out of Jenny Lind, 35g5., Owen McGee. There was a good attendance at the sale.
