(FROSI OUR OWN .CORRESPONDENT.}:/Tjb'Ahoha, Monday. The monthly meeting of the Town Board was. held, on Saturday evening, the members present: being Messrs Quinn (chairman) Hotchih, 1 .Cornea and Dqbson. Correspondence : A letter from Mr Coney, postmaster, Thames was read asking for information regarding the outside lamp which the board wished to placed at the post-offiqe. The clerk stated a reply_bad been sent giving the information required. From the chairman of the:Tauranga County Council requesting, the co-operation of the board in the endeavour to obtain a. subsidy of £7000 from Government towards the construction of a good coach road to connect Tanranga with Te Aroha by the line over the range known as Thompson's track. There was only one opinion amongst the members as to the d.esirabilty of having the road made, its importance to both places being fully recognised. In discussing the matter some fear was expressed that as the work was already in a manner commenced from the Taurariga end it would be carried on from that side and that Te Aroha would' thus be deprived of any advantage from the expenditure of so large a sum. In deciding > to co-operate' in the matter the board •, determined also to use their efforts to secure for this district an equal share of the .benefits. The following resolution (: moved by Mr Corn'es and seconded by the chairman' was passed That the letter be, acknowledged and the Taurang.i Council informed that the proposal will have the ;hearty supportof the board and that the member for the district be written to requesting him to aid in procuring the grant. Letter, received from the chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council, enclosing copy of petition forwarded by that body to the House of Representatives protesting against the control of the rivers sought for by the Thames Harbour Board. Letter from J. R. Guilding stating the conditions in which he Was appointed poundkeeper by the Piako County Council, and offering to continue as such under the board, giving to the board per cent of the gross proceeds. On the 'motion of the chairman seconded by Mr Dobsonitwas resolved "That Mr (building's offer be accepted for a period of twelvemonths on condition that he find two sureties of £25 each, to be approved of by the" board." Petition received, from a number of residents at the south end of Whitaker-street, calling attention to the state of the footpath there, and requesting that it be put in repair from the corner of Rolleston-street, onward to the residences of the petitioners. Proposed by Mr Dobson, ■ and seconded by Mr Hotchin, .that the engineer be requested to report to the Board as to the probable cost of the work. Carried. Petition from residents at north end of Ivoromiko-street, asking for certain road improvements necessary to give them convenient access to their places of abode. Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Works Committee, with power-to act. Forming road and footpath from corner of Whitaker-street to the post ofßce: The chairman stated that three tenders had been received for the work, viz. Mercer and Kerr £19 9s, A. Wallace £19 10s, and H. Hyde £14, and that he had accepted the lowest. The action of the chairman was confirmed by the Board. Engineer's report on water supply and street improvements : The report stated that the probablo cost of constructing a dam in the creek at the site proposed and of laying nine inch cast-iron pipes therefrom to Whitakerstreet, and along the principal portion of that street would be £895. For other works recomended the expenditure was estimated as follows ;--l?ortrjiiig and metalling footpath on both sides of Kenrick-street from Whitaker-street to Church-street, £5; forming water table on lower side of Church-street, from Bridge-street to Boundary-street, - including pipes across Kenrick-street, £14; forming drain in Rewi-str'eet, £1; footpath in Wilson-street, from Whitaker-street to Catholic Chapel, £8. On the the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Comes, it was resolved fhe making of the footpath in KenrickStfeep l}e prpceeded with at once, and that it be continued'on to the gate of the school grounds. It was resolved to let the qther work stand over for further consideration. Plan,of the township : The engineer was authorised to prepare a plan of the town for fjhe use ()f the board, passed for payment: C, Balcke, £8 3s ; Cf. Devey, £4 Is; ,T. S'. Bond," 4s; "J. Herberts and Fitzgerald's London Circus Company gave a performance here on Saturday evening, which was largely patronised.'
