PROTECTION OF GAME.
■: - — TO THE EllITOp. Sir,—What is the law with regard to game in New Zealand? Is it necessary to; take out annually a license for shooting, ant], if so, who are the collectors for same in the Waikato, and what is the fee ? As it sefcms to me from the amount of men and dogs skirmishing over public and private properties— ; both week days and Sunday*— without any permit whatever, that; we shall soon b.e ffefcitijte of all game, and the a limitation is p«t to jjiis. indiscriminate pot-hunting the better Thus my reasf>n i<V asking you ;these. questions is, to kindly draw public attention to the master. —I remain, youi',s obediently, A PpQRTftJfAN'. •- [Licenses to kill gnmif are issued by' the postmaster at any money-order office in the district. The fee is 30s, and a license must be taken out every year. There is no doubt a very great amount of poaching is done, and pot-hunting is allowed to go op pretty indiscriminately. The remedy lies to a great extent with' the owners of the property trespassed on; and if a few examples were
made by summonsing the offenders a great amount of good would undoubtedly be d one;— Ed.]
