ACCIDENT ON THE TRUNK RAILWAY.
[BY TELEORAI'H—OWN COHRESPONDDENT.] Te Awamutu, Wednesday. An accident occurred last night at Hangatiki at dark. It appears a truck was standing on the line with some men in it, waiting for tho ballast train from Te Kuiti to pick them up on its return to Otorohanga. It was run into by tho engine of the train, and three men were hurt, one severely. I I am told his name is Pearson, and his father, I believe, lives in Hamilton. One man jumped out of the truck when he saw the train approaching, and got off without injury. The inference is, that if one man could jump out the others could have done the same, when all would have escaped The truck was stationery, so it would appear that it would have been easy to jump out. This is all I can learn so far of the (β^urrence.
Young Pearson was brought down to Hamilton by yesterday morning's train from Te Awamutu, and taken to his father's residence. He is greatly shaken, but Dr. Kenny, who is attending him, has hopes that the patient will be about in a short time. Two other Hamilton lads were in the trucks, but their injuries are slight.
