WAIPA SPECIAL SETTLEMENT.

TniAoad from the Waipa to the WhainKaroa Plot Springs which is intended to open up the country under the village settlement scheme of the Government, is being vigorously pushed on under the direction arid ('supervision, of Mr F. H. Edgecumbe. The track is already cut and the road graded to a width of four feet, suitable for horse traffic as far as the watershed, a distance oi six miles from Ngaruawahia. The work of forming the track has been let to the selectors in small contracts, and is being carried out in a satisfactory manner. The land open for selection is undulating and of-good quality, and especially suitable for small occupiers. Mr Edgecumbe deserves great credit for the manner in which he has laid out this block of land, which has been so laid off,as to include an area of bush sufficient to provide abundance of excellent timber for building and fencing purposes, and also to give each section-a road frontage. The country throughout is well watered, and is nearly all ploughable. There is also an excellent run, of almost unlimited extent, for cattle, which to settlers of limited means such as these Selectors" are, will provide an immediate source of help in providing feed for any number of dairy cattle they can purchase. It is expected that the track, which is intended ,to. connect, ~with the ~Huntiy W:KaiTlga|o4j rjoad. Completed; jin abbuVsi'x 'mo'riJih.s, and'will open'up a large extent of good land suitable for settlement.
