CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.

The above board met at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge on Saturday. Present : Messrs J. Taylor (chairman), G. Pickering, J. J. Smith, J. P. Thompson and J. Forrest. Mr J. Martin wrote asking the board to have Broad meadows road repaired. The middle of the road was low, and in winter it was covered with water ; particularly near Fencourt Station. It was moved by Mr Smith, and seconded by Mr Forrest, that the necessary repairs be done. Carried. Mr Pickering asked the board to open the half-way road, through to Fencourt station. The Engineer said it would be a very expensive piece of work, as it would cross a large portion of swamp. It would cost some hundreds of pounds. Mr Pickering then asked that the road should be formed and gravelled from the bridge to Norris' corner. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr Forrest, that the road be formed and travelled, as requested. Several low places in No. 3 cross road, between Browns corner and the Hamilton road, were ordered to be filled in. Letter from Mr Armstrong, Tamahere, saying, the fence of the Tamahere pound needed repairing, and that if the board would do the necessary repairs, he would be glad to take charge (if it. Mr Pickering said the pound was a erreat convenience to the settlers, many of whom left cattle there when coming from the Ohaupo sates. Mr Pickering was authorised to get the necessary repairs executed. Mr .T. P. Thomson was authorised to make an agreement with Mr Arnold, as to the board taking a corner of his land abutting on the Hamilton road. Messrs Smith and Pickering are the members who retire. Both are eligible for re-election. . , It was resolved after great opposition from Mr Forrest, to raise the collectors per centacre from 5 to U for the past year. Mr Barwell presented a petition from the Tamahere ratepayers, askintr the board to open the Avenue road. It was deferred until the clerk ascertain if it had been declared a public road. The following accounts were passed for payment;—T. Wattam, £9 Is lOd ; Watt and Wayman, £19 10s fld; Thomas, Brothers, £30, on account; T. Pennell. £3 9s : H. Fitzgerald, £9 5s ; T. G. Sandes, £2 ;T. Wattam, £5 9-s; T. Ryan, (deposit), £2 ; do., gravelling, £G Is ; M. Shaw, 10s. The meeting then closed.
