TE AROHA.
(FROM OOR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) . Te Aroha, Monday. Whatever the actual value of the gold discovery at Waitoa may prove to be, there seems at any rate to be good grounds'for believing that the auriferous deposit extends over a pretty wide area. The encouraging prospects obtained on the property of Mr J. B. Smith have induced other residents in the neighbourhood to prosecute the search, and in one instance at least it has been attended with promising results. The fresh discovery has been made on the property of Messrs Campbell, adjoining that of Mr Smith. A sample of sand taken by the manager, Mr R. Parr, from a drain on the estate was sent to Auckland to be tested, and yielded bullion at the rate of 3, )Z s lVdwts'per ton, half an ounce of which represented gold. This satisfactory assay has induced the owners of the land to have a trial made on a larger scale, and two parcels of about two sorts each have been sent, respectively, to Waiorongomai and to Messrs Eraser and Sons' plant in Auckland for treatment. The results are looked for with much interest.
