COURSING.

TO THK EDITOR. Sir,—As I hear that there was a meeting of the Auckland Coursing Club held at Plumpton Park the other day, I would like just to say a few words on the subject. There is not half so much interest taken in coursing as there should be, particularly in the Waikato, where there are some fine hunting grounds, and hares are plentiful. I have also seen some splendid, dogs in Cambridge, Hamilton and elsewhere, and I fail to see why there should not be a Waikato Coursing Club in existence as well as an Auckland Coursing Club. I have been talking to owners of dogs on the subject, and they tell nie that Waikato dogs sent to Auckland get no show down there, and that added to the trouble and cost of carting the dogs down and up again, it is no wonder that interest in the sport is lacking. I think that if there was a club formed in the Waikato, and proper support given it by those interested, it could not help but thrive. It could be based on the same principle as the Waikato Horticultural Society, that is, to hold the club one year, say at Cambridge, and another year at Hamilton, and so on, wherever it was convenient. I think if this plan were carried out, it would make the club much stronger than if separate towns had a club of their own. Hoping this will receive some attention from lovers of the sport. I am, yours faithfully, , . One oi' Them. Cambridge, April 14th, 1887.
