NEW ZEALAND RACEHORSES IN VICTORIA.

The Australasian in refernne to New Zealand racchorses lately present at their Great Autumn meeting speaks in flattering terms of New Zealand representatives. He says : " Our New Zealand friends were fairly in ifc on Saturday, and well they deserved to be. When two Major George and Mr George Stead send their horses 1500 or 1(500 miles to run at a meeting they are entitled to annex some of the prize money, and it was gratifying to see them make "so auspicious a commencement on the opening day of the V. R.C. Autumn Meeting. Nelson is a racehorse in the true sense of the term, and when he cantered home so easily in the E-seudon Stakes, many werethe expressions of regret that his breeder,, Mr A. K. 'Finlay, had not lived to see the> great son of the King Cole figuring on the* V. li.C. course. That Nelson is possessed of wonderful speed was amply proved, for he ran the last five furlongs in a shade under l.m 5-i., and it is quite upon the cards that, had Major George, not scratched him for the Newmarket Handicap, he, and not Lochiel would have been returned the winner." Of Maxim," he says, " he is a rare-shaped C'lll, with the true Musket character about him, and was the most admired of all the competitors, even though he was beaten. Tranter is described as one of the finest twoyears ever seen there and he predicts great; things of hiui saying:—"'Tranter is a magnificent fellow, and will some day carry Mr Mitohelson's colours prominently in a big race."
