REPLY 10 "PATERANGI."

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —" Paterangi" asks me where I would get a rich man to stand for the Waipa—that is if the honorarium was done away with. "Paterangi" cannot see far through a stone. Within two miles of his own door he would find a man. Mr Lake would stand, and would Ret in. " Pate ran gi " will say What is the use of mentioning him, he has retired or is going to do so. Well there are others, there is one who has sucked in politics with his mother's milk, who could no more help learning the science of politics I than he could help learning to read and write, one who could in Wellington talk, explain, and expound on burning questions. Politics require an apprenticeship like anything else. We want a man in Wellington who can talk and think for the good of New Zealand. Any paltry, trumpery, local, stump, gabby body can see little local grabs that would do good to his own district, but we will not have New Zealand eo to the dogs to gratify this small grabbing. We want a man in Wellington that we won't be ashamed of. We want the right man in the right place, wo want a man who during the Foolery was in opposition, and who during Sir J. Hall's reign was a warm supporter of his wise policy. Need I name him? No! His name is a household word.—l am, yours faithfully, Haral'll'l. HarapHi, 3rd April, ISB7.
