[by telegraph.— press association.] Wellington, Friday. The Public Works Committee of the city council at next meeting will discuss what steps should be taken to celebrate the Qheen's Jubilee. Frederick Fountain, formerly a messenger employed by the Government, was to-day committed on a charge of stealing £11. About 430 men of the Wellington Garrison will attend the encampment at New Plymouth. It is stated that the Government with a view of reducing the departmental expenditure, and have given notice dispensing with the services of a number of officials.
