A Lettkk, dated Melbourne, Dec. 12 1080 reached England on Monday from a young man who wont to Australia a few months ago with *he intention of settling there, in which, referring to the unemployed he said : I must tell you that they are as badly off as in England in Sydney, New South Wales. The Government have had to start Public Works to employ destitute men at ss. per day. Such a thing has never been heard of before, 10s. per day being the lowest ever known." He adds that numbers of people are on the verge of starvation, and that in consequence of the state of things out there, he intends to re.* turn home shortly.
