A vkky successful trial has been made by the officers of the Torpedo Corps in Sydney, of Wiitkin's position-hnder, tin ingenious contrivance for indicating the positions of hostile vessels in relation to mine Holds. The vessel is placed under observation through ;t telescope and an automatic arrangement attached to the telescope touches a button, which sets an electric current in motion and explodes a submarino mine directly the vessel passes over it. At the trial a, 301b mine was laid, and a small object iiitonded to represent a ship was placer! under observation and towed over the mine, which was exploded with the utmost precision and most satisfactory results.
