THE race. St. Leonards, Lochiel, William Tell, Blairgowrie, and Mitrailleuse were the first to get away to a very fair start. When passing the tan-crossing the order was: Blairgowrie, Lochiel, Abner. Blairgowrie then took command, and led to the carriage paddocks, where Abner took the lead, followed by Blairgowrie, Lochiel, William Tell, Lando, and Mitrailleuse. Abner seemed'to bo winning easily till 20 yards from home, when Lochiel made a splendid effort and overhauled her. Then followed in a bunch Lando, Blairgowrie, William Tell, Honora, and Mitrailleuse, the others being in a closely-packed bunch. A splendid finish here ensued between Lochiel and Abner, the former gaining inch by inch, until the,. post was passed ; and so close did the finish appear that there was a doubt as to which had won, but the judge declared Lochiel a winner by a neck. Lando was a good third, then Mitrailleuse, Honora, William Tell, Satyr and Blairgowrie heaped together. Time, lmin. 15|secs.
