D., 48; West, 45. Considerable excitement was manifested. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. At the Fire Brigade demonstration to-day, the hose practice was won by Spit, 48 l-sth sees. ; South Dunedin, 505ec5.,..2 ;. Dunedin, 54 1-sth sees., 3. Engine practice for firemen: Spit, 46 1-oth sees, (including 4secs. penalty), 1; Dunedin, 4Ss3ecs. (including 6secs. penalty), 2; Rangiora, 49secs., 3. Out of thirteen events on the programme, only three were completed. INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. A letter from Hob irt fruit merchants to their customers states that, from infor« mation they ha e received, it is generally reported in Wellington that there is a man empl iyed in Hobart, in the interests of New Zealand fruit growers, to ship by eieh steamer a few cases of infected fruit, so as to insure the condemnation of the whole shipment. The body of Mrs* Hogan was. found in the lagoon uear Waitahtuia yesterday.
