Equal and exact justice to all men, Of whatsoever state or persuasion, religious or political.
Mr Puice-Williams has given his impressionsou New Zealand before the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, and we are glad to say has largely corroborated our views re railway traffic. For instance, he has succeeded in inducing Mr Maxwell to admit that railway administration " should not have for its primary object the providing of a revenue, but that the legitimate task of railway administration is the reduction to as low a point as possible of the cost of transit g? persons, goods and minerals." Mr Pnwi-Wiiiiunis very sensibly pointed out to the Chamber of Commerce that iron and coal were infinitely wore profitable than the socalled precious metals, and was of opinion that before long the sun of Old England would be set, and that of New Zealand would be in its zenith. Mr Price-Williams thinks that the doctrine that New Zealand has gone far enough in the borrowing line is wrong, if not absurd. If Government could not afford to do it, let them leave private enterprise to do it. If a proper .■scheme were formed not five for five times ihe amount .could hn attracted to the colony, •yes, Ut-Ffc rs'l ev Hmn be invested in ,4>tJjer UiicleiUliiiigs. By all means
have labouring men as emigrants here, but what was the use of them without the capital to employ them. That capital is to be easily had at home. Some years ago British in vestors got sick of Nicaraguan bonds and Nevada silver obligations. Profitable they might be to promoters or pronnnciamento leaders, but hardly to the subscribers. An enormous accumulation of capital is now seeking employment, and New Zealand can get a fair share of it, and return more thau a fair percentage for ib.
