According to information received from the Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, the time for the election of the town district commissioners has now be»n fixed. The election will take ph.ee on March 10th, and Mr Henry Crump has been appointed returning c fficr.

For a considerable time past our Improvements Committee may be said to have been defunct. During the period of its active existence it did good service to the community, but the adoption of a proper form of local self government renders the continued existence of such a body unnecessary. A public meeting was to have been held on Saturday evening to receive the closing report, and accept the resignation of the committee, but owing to the unavoidable absence of the chairman and convener the meeting lapsed. A change took place in the weather on Saturday, when smart showers of rain began to fall. During the early part of yesterday also, there was a gentle downpour, but it was quickly absorbed by the thirsty earth, and it did not continue long enough to do any permanent good.
