The Waikato Timss Office, Monday. LONDON MARKETS. [REUTKK'S 'lELKGUAiMS.I London, January 28.—Consols are IOOJr. New Zealand 5 per cent. 10-40 loan is 10< lower, viz., 102 ; New Zealand inscribed stock is 103 higher, viz., 95. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,990,000 quarters, beirip 80,000 quarters less than last week. Colonial broadstutfs are -unchanged. Australian beef tallow is 6;i higher, 25s Od. Mutton tallow is also lid higher, 30-i. At the colonial wool sale to-day 10,700 bales were offered. The market continues firm. New Zealand mutton is selling from 4Ad to 4fd per lb. [press association.] London, January 29.--The wool market ia firm. Since the opening of the series 50,000 bales have beeu catalogued, of which 2900 have been withdrawn. Messrs Jacomb and Co. report an average rise on scoured merinos of fully 10 per cent., and on crossbreds sto 10 per cent. The correct number of bales available is 250,000. The wheat market is depressed, and no fresh sales are reported. The supply is above the market demand. Quotations for Australian cargoes on the spot are unchanged. Sellers of the new crop are asking 27s 3d. SYDNEY STOCK MARKET. Mkssrs W. Inglis and Son report for the weekending January 14th — Fat Cattle, —960 head were yarded at Homebush on Monday. Although there was a plentiful supply, the attendance of town and country buyers was large, and the market remained very firm at late quotations throughout tne sale. The highest average was £8 Is for a draft of bullocks from Dubbo, a large lot of 200 from Bourke averaging £7 13s 4d. The highest price for cows was £G 13s 2d for a small lot of 32 from Mount Howitt. Today (Thursday) the number was less, 760 only being yarded, but the attendance of buyers was small, and sales dull and dragging throughout. The highest average was £7 10s for a draft from Tilboroo; other lots seld according to quality, from £5 12s 6d up. We quote— Best beef 21s per 100 lbs. Fair 18s " Middling 10s ' Sheep.—Thero has been a large supply this week, 14,100 being penned on Monday, and 21,200 to-day. The number on the former occasion was about equal to requirements, and no change in prices took place, prime quality being very firm. The highest price for any large lot of merino wethers was for 1920 from Bar won, that sold from lis Id to lis 3d, another lot from .Carathool making 9s 2d to 9s 4d. A large consignment of nearly 2000 from Mudgee ranged from 6s 6d to 8s 6d. To-day the markt was again firm for prime, but easier upon other descriptions. A small lot of heavy merino wethers, extra prime, from the Hunter, made 12s 3d, and a draft of 1300 from Merriwa, 10s 7d to lis 6d ; the crossbred wethers ranged from 9s lOd to 13s 3d. The remaining sheep sold according to quality, from 5s to 9s lid. We quoteBest wethers 9s 6d to lis (id Good 7s Gd to 9s Others... .. ... at 5s 2d.

Messrs William Inglis and Son report for the week ending January 21st, 1887: — Fat Cattlk. —The supply on Monday was much too heavy for market requirements, over 1200 being yarded at Homebush, and prices further declined to a point lower than we have had for some years, best beef not being worth more than 20s per lOOibs. The highest average was £7 14s 3d for a draft from Wellington of 124 bullocks, the next being £7 7s for one of 90 head from Ardoch, the balance ranging according to quality from £5 Cs to £7 3s Gd. To-day (Thursday) 000 head were yarded, principally from Queensland, and prices were no better, A lot of 135 really prime quality bullocks, from Dubbo, made £7 19s 3d, the next highest price being £7 Is Gd for a draft of 190 from Queensland, the remainder ranged down to £5 4s per head, and cows at proportionate rates. We quote — Best beef 20s per lOOibs Fair 17s ~ Middling 15s ~ Sheep.—There has been a good supply during the week, 10,400 being penned on Monday and 19,800 to-day. On both occasions the proportion of prime quality has .been smaller than usual, and this, combined with the large purchases made by the Meat Preserving Company, has caused an improvement in prices for such —rates for others showing no material alteration. The highest price for merino wethers was obtained for a lot of 1400 from Tirgalarna that made 10s 4d to lis 4d. a large lot of nearly 2000 from Cannonbar bringing 8s 2d to 8s 9d, the remainder sold according to quality at prices ranging down to Gs per head.
