A CANDID FRIEND'S ADVICE.
' TO THE KDITOK. Sib, —I see by the papers the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board are calling for applications for the post of secretary and treasurer at a salary of £150 per annum. I certainly intend to apply, and should be very glad to get the appointment, but as a ratepayer I object to that way of doing business. I think tenders ought to be called for, and select the most eligible, at a reasonable salary. I fully concur with Mr Gane's remarks. We should proceed carefully and economically till we know more what our requirements are. But you people of Hamilton have a high-handed way of doing business. You want everything done according to your ideas, as if Hamilton was the seat of wisdom (but it is not). Now, I have the greatest respect for the people of Hamilton, and think it the capital of the Waikato and the proper place for an hospital. But for all that, Mr Editor, I think you are making too much of Hamilton in your paper. One would think that the whole community was deeply concerned in the affairs of the Borough Council, the Domain Board, and his Worship the Mayor. As I go round the country I very often hear the remark, " D Thk Waikato Times, it's all Hamilton." Now, could you not give us some more interesting matter ? Tell us anything, Mr Editor, anything, about your first love, or a good lie. but, oh, in mercy, spare us the infliction of telling us what Councillor Jones said, and what Councillor Tippen said, and what his Worship the Mayor did. In fact, after reading the report of the Borough Council meetings I aiu sure, to dream that night that I am bowing to his Worship the Mayor and the Hamilton Borough Councillors Knox, Tippen, Jones, and Co. And now, Sir, in conclusion I'll give you a bit of advice, but keep it to yourself. If you intend tr> run your Mayor at the next election don't trot him out so much before the time, and so spoil a good man's chance, and who has the welfare of the district at heart.—l am, yours obediently, H. Roche. Ngaroto, January 31st.
