CONCERT AT ALEXANDRA.
The concert and dramatic performance in aid of the Sunday-school and school libraries that took place here on Thursday last was an excellent one, but the attendance was not so large as the promoters deserved. No doubt the intense heat experienced here on that day made many disinclined to leave their homes, who would otherwise have been present. The young actors who took part in the farce or burlesque of "Alwnzo the Brave," acquitted themselves most creditably, which must have been_ especially gratifying to their lady superintendent and manageress, Mrs .John Aubin. The following was the programme of the evening's amusement Sonata, piano (Beethoven) by Emile Aubin, was most expressively played and applauded. Song, Mr' McMinn, "Come down and open the door "; song, Miss Allan, "A Vision." It need hardly bs said that this was a success. Song, Miss Finch, "Oh ! ye Tears." This young lady fairly divided the honours with her predecessor. Song, Mr S. Miles, "Never trouble trouble," was fairly given. After the usual interval to enable the audience to " go out and see a man," the curtain rose to "Alonzo the Bravo, or the fair Imogetie," with the following castMephistopheles, Emile Aubin ; Faust, Sain Collier; Alonzo the Brave, F. Higginson ; Sybil, C. Edenborotigh; Imogene, Miss Alice Finch; Dame, Miss Evelyn Wilson, together with soldiers, school children, &c. As I have already intimated, the youngsters all did well, and amused the audience immensely. Their dresses were all appropriate ; the 1 Dev—l mean his Satanie Majesty made one quite realize what a sultry climate it must be in his regions. Mr Collier acted as conductor and Mrs A. Helps kindly played the accompaniments on the piano. A dance finished the evening's amusement. The annual social picnic will take place on Thursday next.—(Own Correspondent.) A six-room house is advertised for sale. Mr John Knox announces in another column that he will hold his opening sale at hjs new auction mart on Saturday next,
