OHINEMURI NEWS.
(FROM 01'K OWN' COUUKSI'ON'DKN'T.) Pakkoa, Tuesday. Matthew Kixsklla, a favourably known small farmer of this district, lias got himself into hot water by reason of an go veritable temper. It appears that Kinsella was owed a sum of money by natives, and seeing some of their relatives riding by lie demanded payment. On it being refused he took up an axo and menaced the Maori until he gave a portion of his wearing apparel. Kinsella was then preparing to take the native off the horse and seize his saddle, when the native made off. The result is a serious charge under the Larceny Act of robbing with violence from the person. Kinsella's only chance from a term of imprisonment will be the provisions of the First Offenders Probation Act. Several of the Ohinetnuri settlers are agitating for the organisation of a cheese and bacon factory. There is no doubt that such would prove at least as much a success as it has in other districts, tho Ohinetnuri pasture lands being perfect, and a supply of milk could be easily obtained. One thing is certain, that the present prices of butter and beef will not pay or half pay small farmers to produce such, and in the bad mining seasons, when capital is scarce and the miners are few, some outlet for produce must bo obtained. Those connected with the mining industry can always lay down their pick and gad, and " clear outward," while the cockatoo aud small settler is compelled perforce to hang on by hook or by crook. The weather is the source of much anxiety on the part of agriculturists, as much from the fact that the heat has evolved insect pests calamitous alike to fruit and garden produce as that the drought itself has done direct damage to the root crops.
