It is announced that Mr Gnschen has conditionally accepted the position of Chanivllnr of the Exchequer. He. will have an interview with L'>rd Salisbury to-day, to arrange this terin.s upon which lie will enter the Cabinet. Later. It is announced that Mr Goschrti lws accepted the position of Chancellor of thn Exchequer in the Salisbury Ministry. The Pall Mall Gazette t'l-day states that Mr Chamberlain has expressed his willingness to bo present sit an informal private conference with Mr Gladstone, Mr John Morley, and Sir William V. Harcourt, for the purpose of discussing the Irish question, and endeavouring to discover a basis which will bo acceptable to both Mr Parntill and Mr Chamberlain. January 4. It is stated that Lord Iddesleigh and Lord Cross will resign their appointments in the Ministry, and that the Ministry will be reconstructed as follows: — Mr W. H. Smith, First Lord of the Treasury and leader of the Commons. Lord Salisbury, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Lord Northbrook, Secretary of State for India. Earl of Morley, Secretary of State for War. • THE LATEST. [Received January 4tli. f).20 p.m.] London, Janu4ry 4. It is officially announced that Mr W. H. Smith has been appointed First Lord of the Treasury, and leader of the House of Coinirons, and Lord Northbrook Secretary for India. It is not yet decided who succeeds Mr Smith as Secretary for War.
