At the poll in the Court-house yesterday for the election of a member for the Western Maori Electoral District only eight votes were recorded, Wiremu to Wheoro 7, Henare Kaihau I. The annual treat for the children attending the Waiorongomai school was held yesterday in Mr Baskett's paddock. Everything passed off excellently. There was a large muster of children, who were regaled with an abundance ot things. A concert in aid of the school funds takes place thus evening. Four now members of the school committee, Messrs A. Wallace, M. Cronin, M. Lovell and D. Wallace, have been elected to fill the vacancies caused by the resignations of Messrs Murphy, Lloyd, Muuro and Orr.

Onk of our well-known ti.iguduns, whilst starring the provinces, played an engagement at Cheltenham. He opened in "Othello," and after the play, being 1 in a hurry to join some old friends, lie raised n loud outciy because there was no hot water to take the colour off.
