OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL
The above met on Saturday labt, and transacted a considerable amount of busunes*. Inter alia, a petition bigned by a number of Te Aroha rebidents was. read, in reference to the incorporation of a town board at that place which would necessitate the *«p«ira tion of part of the Paeroa riding of the Ohinemuri County. It was stated that a*, theie was some division atnone the petitioners, it would be better to defer consideration of the petition. The matter of the Auditor-General's award of £2000 in favour of the Thames County was also canvassed. The Chairman stated that he had requested Government to allow the county to sell kauri to the value of £2000 in order to liquidate the liability. In the event of this not being planted either a heavy rate would have to be btrnck, or Section MS of the Loans to Local Bodies Act would ha\ c to be taken advantage of, whereby the council can boirow, without a poll of the ratepayeis, to pay exiting overdraft on liability. It' was stated that the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Boaid had been applied to for refund of Ohinenuui delegate's travelling expenses disallowed by provincial auditor. After sundry local busmen the council adjourned.
