TE AROHA. (FROM OUR OWN COR RESPON DENT.) Te Aroha, Monday.
A special meeting of the Domain Board was held on Saturday evening, Present: Messrs Gavin (in the chair) Ahier, Lipsey and Quinn. The secretary read a letter trom Mr George Wilson intimating his desire to be relieved of the duties of the chairmanship of the board. Mr Wilson's resignation was accepted with regret, the whole of the members expressing their high appreciation of the manner in which be had discharged the dutfes of his office, and of his valuable services in giving attention to the improvement of the domain. It was resolved that a letter be sent to Mr Wilson conveying to him the thanks of the board for the eminent service* rendered by him during hi.s chairmanship. Mr I^ipsey moved and Mr Quinn seconded that Mr Thomas Gavin be elected chairman until next annual meeting. The motion was carried unanimously, Tenders for the aalo
of tickets of admission to the baths were received as follows.— A. W. Edward*, 10 per cent; A, W. Whitehouse, 7i per cent; Brigham and Harris, 2£ per cent ; 0. S. Pyne, 2 per cent. The tender of Brigham and Harris, although not the lowest was accepted on account of the convenien- a of their place of business to the entrance ot the domain. It was decided that six awn ings be procured to be erected for purposes of shade over the Beats in the ground*, as the trees are not yet sufficiently large to afford much protection from the rays of the sun. This provision will add much to the comfort of those freouenting the domain during the warm weather. Mr Quinn intimated that the repairs to the drinking fountain were now almost completed. The water had been raisod to a height two feet above the surface of the ground, and no signs of leakage were observable anywhore. It was resolved to leave the finishing of the work in the hands of Mr Quinn. Accounts amounting to £24 were passed tor payment, and this terminated the business. A petition bearing the signature of 115 residents of Waiorongomai has been forwarded to the Postmaster-General praying that the proposal of Government to close the telegraph office at that township may not be carried into effect. Ik is to be hoped their petition will be successful.
