KNITTED SASH FOR TENNIS OR CRICKET, &c.

This novelty will be found a very handsome addition to the rather small number of things that can be made for gentlemen. Things required : Two pins (No. 5 rulcanite ones are the best), 2oz of smooth spun knitting silk, cardinal, or the colour of any tennis cluh, &c. First measure off for the fringe 360 lengths of 14in each. This had best be done by winding the silk round a stinHy bound book measuring that size ; it will use about half an ounce of the silk. Cut this short skein through once, and lay it aside till needed. Cast on 54 stitches, and knit up the rest of the silk in cither of the following patterns : cast off loosely. It will be about two and a half yards long when stretched. Fringe each end by knotting 10 lengths of the silk into each of the 10 brioche patterns or riba, or into each of the seventeen holes formed by the web pattern ; in this latter case only 340jlengtbs of the silk will be needed ; also the saino quantity of silk will make a longer length in the web pattern than in the brioche. Knot half of each tasael together with half of the next one at about one inch from the top ; the whole of each outside tassel mutt be knotted in with the next half. Shake out the fringe, and cut the edges straight. No. I, brioche. Thre estitches to a pattern— lst row. Make 1, slip 1, knit 2 together, ropeat to the end. Every row is the same. No. 2, web No.l. Three stitches to a pattern -Ist row. Make 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, repeat to the end. Every row is the same. This sash has been highly approved of by several good players.
