THE Wellington correspondent of tho Star writes :—" It is freely rumoured that one result of the long Cabinet meetings hold recently it an important modification in the pen ami policy of tho Government. Accoiding to rumour, Ministers, having observed with deop concern tho unfavourable result of the last loan and the large and persistent falling otf m tho revenue, have come to the conclusion that a policy of stiicl economy in admmihtration and of resolute absoution from further increasing the dobtrt of the colony must be carried out until matters improve. It is said that even those members of the Government who have hitherto been favourable to what is commonly styled a ' progressive' and courageous course now recognise the advisableness of putting the break on."
