THE HAWKE'S BAY MATCH. [BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Saturday.
The weather was magnificent for the match between twenty - two representative-, of Hawked Bay atid the Australian Eleven, which took place to-day on the Napur recreation ground. The attendance of the public wan large, ovpr 1000 pei sv>nb Wing on the ground dm mg the day. The local team won the toss, and went to the wickets. The bowling was \erygood, Palmer being especially destructive, and none of the batsmen could take any libeities with the shooters sent in by him. The fielding of the \isitois was also very good after the fin-t half hour, it being iat her loo.se at fhst. Ten of the local men went in only to letue again without '-coring, but the remaining do/.en pl.iyeis put together 1)2, <.f which number, however, 17 were extras. The majoiity of these were obtained during the first thuty minutes' play, aftei which tin? Australians, apparently finding they would have to held well to win, smaitened up considerably, the rpsult being that \ery few byes troubled the scorers. After that the \ihitoif> found the bowling ot the local truudlers good enough to pi ly carefully, and no large scores were made, except m the case of (Jatrett, who made 31. None of the batsmen were bowled, but maiden overs were plentiful, and the fielding was smart. The visitors weie one man shoit, Blackham being absent. Appended are tho score* :—: —
