LATEST PAEROA NEWS. (BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Paeroa, Monday.

At the R.M. Court this day, before Mr H. A. Stratford, R.M., in the case Hogg v. Cock, claim £3 18s for goods sent by steamer for which defendant is agent, and wrongly delivered, was nonsuited on the ground that the Thames Navigation Company should have been sued. Several other local cases were disposed of. At the Police Court Constable Mitchell charged James Barrett with cruelty to a horse by working it in packing gear while suffering from a large open sore. Constable Mitchell proved it to be a gross case of cruelty, and showed a record of previous convictions. The R.M. severely censured defendant, and fined him £3 4* 3d and costs 7s. At the quarterly session of the Ohine tnuri Licensing Committee three applications were read for publicans' licenses at Owharon, but as the local option poll in 1883 determined against an increase in such licenses, the commissioners ruled accordingly. A btart has been effected to cart the Adeline quartz to Paeroa, from whence a large parcel will be sent per Kotuku on Friday. The weather i8 hot and the crops are looking well.

Filial ingratitude proceeds mostly from ignorance. Children are brought up without any knowledge of the family resources of the claims to be met, or of the limits of possibility in the way of expenditure. Whut they do know very thoroughly is their own wants and desires; and, when these are refused, without any adequate reason that they can see, a feeling of resentment arises and rankles within them, and, by repetition develops into a setfclsd ingratitude to those very parents who are, perhaps, toiling hard and sacrificing themselves for their children's good. Yes ! It is certainly true. Ask any of your friends who have purchased there.
