Two petitions have, during the week, been forwarded to Government, one being addicssed to the Minister of Lands, and signed by a large number of residents and visitors, requesting Government to a^i^t in subsiding a qualified medic.il practitioner in connection with the bath*. On their recent visit here, both the Minister of Justice and the Colonial Secretary admitted the necessity for having such an appointment made, and would me their influence in obtaining the required aid. The petition now forwarded will greatly .strengthen their ham's, and as the inhabitants are prepared to show their zeal in the matter by also offering a substantial guarantee, it is hoped the desired object will shortly be accomplished. The other petition is from the supporters of the town district movement, and has been forwarded to the Colonial Secretary. It bears the names of 10.) persons 1 evident within the limits of the proposed district, the area- of which is considerably less than two square miles, extending from the Thames County boundary on thi north to Stouey Creek, midway between this township and Waiorongomai, and from the cunfcre of tilts rner a-* the western boundary to a line distant therefrom about half-a-mile. An the Act under which town districts can be formed expires at the end of the current month, the petition, if it is to be successful, will require to have immedi ate attention at Wellington. A commencement has been made to put the di inking fountain in the domain into a proper stite of repur. For a length of time the flow has been extremely scanty, owing to a leakage at the bottom of the pipe through which the water is laired to the required height. Ihe work now taken in hand will shortly be completed, and will have the effect of preventing -my fiuther stoppage of the supply. It is reported that interests of some value in the Tui Creek minus have recently changed hands. It is also said th .t fie infusion of new blood i-, likely to lead to gu>ater onterpiise in the devolopniont of the mint^, and possibly to the intioduction of English capital wherewith to work them.
