CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.
Thk above board met at the borough council offices, Cambridge, on Thursday, at 3 p.m. Present : Messrs Wells (chairman), Kirkwood, Hewitt, and Fisher. Correspondence.— From Mr J. H. Hooper, saying that the pump fixed by tho board in section !)0, Cambridge West, would not act. Mr Fisher reported that it had been repaired.— From Mr H. Preece, ask ing to have allotment No. 9 transferred to Mr J. H. Priestly ; also, further communi- j cation, saying that he should require this re-transferred aftor he had settled with Mr Priestly, who only held it as security. The clork was instructed to inform Mr Preece that the transfer would be granted, but they could not interfere with any private arrangement between himself and Mr Priestly.— From Mr C. F. Wren, saying th.it he had despatched a package of Barberry plants as ordered. — From Mr F. J. Brooks, dated October Bth, stating that the account of the board at the Bank of New Zealand was overdrawn to the extent of £283 14s Bd, and added : " I must ask you , to see to the overdraft being brought within the £230 as soon as possible, and arrangements made so that that figure is not exceeded in future."— The chairman laid a statement on the table, showing the financial position of the board. Tho annual rents for Cambridge East were £125 15s lOd, and Cambridge West £99 3s 2d, or a total of £224 19s. The rents due on November 10th and unpaid were £45 155., and the amount of leases unaccounted for, £0 9s lOd ; making a grand total of £277 4s i)J. The liabilities were £02 8s 4d, and the bank overdraft at the present date £223 4s s>d ; so that the total indebtedness was £237 13s Id. The assets, adding the month's rents now due, were just about equal to the liabilities.. A great deal of the trouble had been caused by the leases being reduced from £370 to £225, and it would be necessary to keep the expenditure at the lowest possible amount. Tho amount ( of the annual rents were about equal -° \ the overdraft. — From Mr J. L. SonU^i asking to have his intest in sections 15, 255, and 34, transferred to Mr T. Wells. Granted.— Circular from the Undersecretary re auditing of the accounts under Section 9 of the Domains Act, 1881.— From Mr F. A. Whitaker, enclosing account f'»r £1 18s 2d. re impounding fees.— From Mr E. Hewitt asking that Lots 77 and 78, Cambridge West, be transferred to W. Hickey, and 79 to Donald McKinnon. Granted. The Chairman said that the caretaker of the domain, Mr T. Brown, had offered to do the work for the ensuing year for the sum of £85. He spoke very highly of the manner in which the work had been done, in which the other members concurred. — On the motion of Mr Kirkwood, seconded by Mr Hewitt, Mr Brown's offer to keep the grounds around the Lake in order from January Ist to December 31st, 1887, for the sum of £85, was unanimously accepted. Proposed by the Chairman, and seconded by Mr Fisher, "That the borough ranger be authorised to impound all cattle trespassing on the enclosed portion of the Te Kimtu Lake reserve, and that it be an instruction to the ranger to place 2s Gd per head damages on all cattle so impounded." Carried. Proposed by Mr Fisher, seconded by the Chairman, " That the remuneration to the ranger be 2s per head for all cattle so impounded." Carried on the casting vote of the chairman. Proposed by Mr Wells, seconded by Mr Fisher, " That instructions be given to the poundkeeper that all sums levied by the ranger as special or general damages be paid over to the secretary of the board." Carried. The following accounts were passed :— T. Brown, £25 13s ; G. T. Neal, £3 10s 9d ; J. Sharp, £1 15s ; Sontter, 14s Gd ; T . Wells, £2 7a 9d ; Bates, £4 Is ; Fletcher, £2 10s ; T. C. Wren, £1 ss ; and F. A. Whitaker, £1 18s 2d. On the motion of the Chairman, .seconded by Mr Kirkwood, the thanks of the board were given to Mr» Carnachan for her present of three Muscovy ducks, and to Mr Sharp for presenting a quantity of shrubs and ornamental trees. A long discussion took plane as to the position of Cambridge West, Mr Hewitt asking how much was owing to tint side. The Clerk said that before tho next meeting, to be held on tho 3id January, he would analyse the accounts, and place on the table an exact statement of the funds of both .sides of the river. Mr Kirkwood said the understanding was that the Cambridge West people would get the whole of the revenues from their side of the river, and that would no doubt be cai ried out. The board then adjourned to the domain to arrange as to fencing the lower part of the ground, when it was decided to erect a fence from the northern boundary, near the Karipiro steam to the Waterfall Creek, so as to protect the growing trees and enclose the little hill, fenca to be three posts to the chain with three barbed vviies. Mr Hewitt was requested to get the work done. It was further agreed to clear and bum a strip of fern of about 10 chains near the Baptist Church.
A 12-foot boat is advertised for sale. Tenders are adveitised for up to the 28th inst. for the removal, wholly or in part of the native store at Alexandra. Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. will sell by auction at Te Awamutu on Saturday, December 11th, a choice lot of drawingroom and bed-room furniture, hay raked, etc. It is the intention of the Pukekura Road Board, at their next meeting, to be held on the 29th December, to make a rate of fivoeighths of a penny in the £ on all rateable property within the district for the period ending 31s»t March, 1887. We would direct the attention of farmers and others desirous of purchasing agricultural implements, engines, boilers, fee, to p.iy a visit to the establishment of Messrs Yai borough and Co., Durham-street, Auckland, where all kinds of machinery and hardware can be procured. Their price lih.t is well worthy of perusal, and cannot fail but to give satisfaction. They havo also on hand a complete stock of builders' and general ironmongery, in addition to belting and mill supplies, and arc at all times hippy to furnish quotations for inuvhinery of every description,
