A VKUY pleasant afternoon was spent l>y a l,\r«e number of the children of the District Hicrh Scli)!)l Cambridge, accompanied by many of thoir parents and friends on Tuesd.iy last, witnessing tho contest for prizes for tennis. The match was confined tr. the yonnjr ladies, of whom the eight best were selected. There were only two prizes, ono for seniors and one for juniors. In each case it was the best two out of three Nets. Tho juniors were the first to play, when the Misses K. Soutfcerund L. Walker beat the Misses E. Williams and M. Davies, tho scotes being (J — 5 and 6—3. Miss Soutter and Miss Walker then played off to decide which wm the batter, when Miss Walker won, the crames being 6— 3 and (}— s. The Misses Williams and Davis followed, and the latter won by 6—l 6—o. Miss Walker and Miss Davies then played off for the pn/,e, Miss Davies winning, the games bei'isr G— s and G— o. The seniors then did battle, the Misses E. Foirest and E. Evans v. B. Carnachan and N. Young. The two former won the two first pets by 6—2 in each. The Misses Young and Evans declining to play it was left to Miss E. Forrest and Miss Carnachan to play off, the latter receiving 15 in each game, as Miss Fwrrest was the better player and won the prize last year. In spite of this Miss Forrest was victorious, the sets being 6—4 and G— 3. Mr F. W. Cooke kindly acted as umpire. The prizes will be distributed on the 10th instant, at the school concert.
