ALEXANDRA NEWS.
In yesterday's issue of The Waikato Times, I notice that I have quite inadvertently pi yen offence to the "Chairman Alexadra Library and Institute" in n;y remarks re the removal of the Maori store. I can assure that, gentlemen, I was quite unaware of the existance of any committee of the kind, or of bid connection with it. Some years ago the late Mr William Sloane gave a room for the u^e of the public, and the books were located there, but on his removal the books have, I believe, been in charge of the schoolmaster for the time being at the schoolhouse, and remain there up to the present time. I was not present at the meeting of the Pironga Mineral Association the other night, but I was informed there was some opposition to the surplus funds being disposed of as they ha\ c been,as some were desirous they should have gone towards the sports ; others think that when the natives have done with the contracts of the Government railway they will once more have to go in fo" cultivation for a subsistence and will require the store that was built and given to them for their accomod.ition by the late Native Minister, Mr John Sheehan, and that therefore the store should not have been removed at all. As far as I nm concerned, as your correspondent, 1 have no interest m the matter whatever. I simply gave the public opinion on the matter, which may be, and often is, in the wrong. Mr Aubin at any rate, is clear of all suspicion in the matter as Churchwarden of S Saviour's for so many years. No ono would suspect him of applying for a building other than for its legitimate purpose.— (Own Correspondent. December l>t.)
