At the adjourned inquest on the body of .10-eph Amos WoKey, whose death was supposed to have been accelerated by injuries received in a fight with another boy, a verdict of death from natural cau.ses was returned. The jury did not attach blame to anyone in their rer-dii-t. The Australian cricketers left to-night for Wellington. About ten o'clock to-night a fire occurred in Pratt's Buildings, Colombostreet. The shop occupied by Mesdames Hill ami Williams, and Messrs Akers, was gutted. Their stock insured was for £200 in the Standard. The stock in the adjoining shop, occupied by Mills, tailor, and Lawrence, bootmaker, was injured by water. Mill's &tock is insured for £.300 in the Colonial, and Lawrence for £130 in the Liverpool, London, and Globe. Taylors grocery stock, next to Mills', was damaged by water. It is in* sured for £650 in the Guardian Orifice. The cause of the tire is supposed to be accidental.

DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Sir Julias Vogel left for the North today. Two acci'lents occurred to-day. A child was knocked dowa by a horse attached to a buggy, and sustained a serious wound in the head. Another young lad, named Percy Smith uas found in an unconscious condition on Anderson Bay Road. He i« supposed to have fallen over the cliff. The boy di?d shortly after his removal to the hospital. Wednesday. Necklace has been scratched for the Dunedin Cup.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Mr Taylor, a settler of Mercer, was thrown fiom his horse yesterday, and iraa picked up unconscious. He is still in a semi conscious state. It is thought he is suffering from concussion of the brain.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Major Boddam, of ths Permanent Militia staff, has been appoiuted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the N.Z. Militia.

WANGANUI, Tuesday. A fire broke out last nipht in Victoria Avenue, when the shops occupied by Peter Bell, draper, and George Caiman, grocer, were completely gutted. An examination of the building disclosed the fact that the tire had originated in the coiner of Caiman's shop, where matches were kept The salvage from both stocks is considerable. The insurances were : — Bells building: New Zealand, £300; South British, £000 ; Colonial, £200. Stock: Union, £1000; Colonial, £800; New Zealand, £.100 ; South British, £.">OO. Bell's stock was valued at, at least £7000. Caiman's insurances are : £0")0, Northern, stock ; £400, Norwich Union.
