THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS IN NEW ZEALAND. MATCH AT WELLINGTON. [BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday.
Thk Australian cricketers arrived to-day, and the match began at 2.30 p.m. The local men won the toss and went in, staying at tho wickets till just on six. Several played confidently and hit with freedom, especially Salmon, Lawson, R. Blacklock, and McGirr. Riley, the top scorer, was missed at mid-on twice, once by Palmer, but played Garretts bowling better than any other. He wins one of five guinea trophies offered by himself. The Australians showed signs of fatigue, and Evans and Phillips were not well after a rough trip. The attendance was not large, and a stiff breeze blew all the day.
