SERICULTURE.
TO THE EDITOR. Siu,— l beg to inform you that the silkworm eggs are expected to arrive in Auckland about the first week in December. Will your readers please let me know what number of eggs they require to ha\e forwarcfcd to them. Small quantities up to two thousand eggs will be supplied gratis. It is advisable for beginners t*) start with a small number of worms. The necessary experience will be acquired more easily than with large broods. Only leaves from the different varieties of the white mulberry .should be used. In case the food supply should prove inadequate to the number of worms, it would be better to reduce their number by throwing some away than feeding them for days on lettuce or other plants. Silkworms fed on other than mulberry leaves produce very inferior cocoons, which are only marketable at a gr»at loss. _ A mulberry trp,e three years olu should yield iibout olbs of leaves ; at 20 years, lcwtand more. Four pounds of leaves are considered sufficient for 100 worms. Printed instructions as to how to raise silk-worms will be distributed shortly. It is desirable that as many people as possible should take part in the experiment, even if they have only ono or two mulberry trees. — I am, sir, yours respectfully G. A. Schoch. Auckland, November 20th ; P. O. Bux 70. __
