TE AWAMUTU.
The Right Reverned the Bishop of Auckland paid a short visit to this part of the diocese during the last few days. His Lordship arrived by train from Auckland on Ftiday evening, and went on, after a shoit rest, to Kihikihi. TV.re was h_ special service in Christ Church at 7 o clock. The Bishop, in his address, spoke of the pleasure of seeing bo many present on a woik day evening, shewing a-, it did an appreciation of the fact that true religion and true worship are not for Sundays only. On Saturday the Bishop, who waa accompanied by Mrs Cowie during the whole trip, left by Finch's coach for Alexander. An accwunt of tho service there on Sunday morning has already appeared in this journal. On Sunday afternoon the Bishop returned to Te Awatnutu, and preached at evensong there. The steady downpmr of rain prevented many from going who intended doing so, but a large congregition was present, and li^teml with marked attention to the able and helpful address by the Bishop on practical religion from the text, " If any nnn will do His will he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of (iod," S. John, VIII chap, and 17 verse. After the psalms the Bishop admitted Mr Sorby into the order of Liv Reader*, and presented him with his licence theieto. The services at Kihikihi and Te Awanuitu were partly choral, and the singing was hearty and reverent. The choirs have made progress, and with careful and regular practice they will be capable of givinor a good rendering of the beautiful service of praise. There are many good voices among them, and evidently a number of "old hands." The Bishop was unable through prior engagements to prolong his stay in the district, and so he had to forego the pleasure of renewing his acquaintance with many old and valued friends. His Lordship and Mrs Cowie returned by the first train on Monday morning.
