The conviction of Alfred Waters for forgery at the Wellington Supreme Comt was also quashed. At 2a m. this morning a four roomed house and shop, owned and occupied by John W. Samby, Karioiri road, w.\> destroyed by fire ; a four-roomed hou>e, owned by W. Ham by, and occupied by Woodmarsh ; a four-roomed house and shop owned by H. Carter, occupied by J. Losnaa, and a two-rootned hon>e owned by Carter and occupied by Alex. Bui locks were also burned down. W. Hamby * house was insured for £1.00 in the London and Lfverpool Insurance Company. Woodmash's house was insured for £100 in the London and Manchester, but the furniture (partly saved) was uninsured Lowas' house and furniture was insured for £"22.") in the Colonial, and Carter's hou-e for £">0 in the South British. The furniture was saved. The origin of the tire is not knowh. Another petition has been presented, praying for the release of Geo. Longhurht, who is undergoing a sentence for rape The Government leplied that they cannot see any grounds to justify them in cum plying with the prayer of the petition.
