Large numbers of store, cattle aio bemc sold at tho country cattle !,ales, the tendency is, to lower values, particularly for grown stock. At Pokeno on Monday there was a larger number yarded than usual ; all were bold to local buyeis at puces higher than are ruling at the Auckland market. At the Drury sj,le. on Wednesday, there was a large number of cattle yaided, consisting principally of quiet cow-:, heifers, young cxttle, and a few grown steers. The steers brought £3 Ija ; cows and springing heifers, from £3 to to £3 ; and yearlings from 21s to 40s ouch. There was a numerous attendance and a fair demand for all stock offered. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle weio in limited number, and at late values ; store cattle, in usual supply, sold freely at a .slight advance. Fat Cattle: In usual number, were lower in puce than for the past fortnight (about 13s each), prices ranged from His to 18s the 1001b. Fat sheep : In moderate supply, were firm. Lambs: Plentiful, and lower in pi ice fully one third ; prices for good lambs ranged from Gs to 9s. Calves : In full numbeis, maintained their price. Well-bred store pigs maintained their price, but heavy fat uitfs at lower values.
Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report.— Horses: A great number have been brought forward, and most of them found purchasers, and tho pievious week's values were sustained. The Durham Yards on Friday were crammed, and there was a large attendance, attracted by shipments from Waverley and Wanganui. With but few exceptions the strangers found purchasers, and many local horses changed owners at fully as high values as on the previous week. Medium draught sold at from £1(> to £20 10s ; harness horses, from ±111 to £lo 10s; hacks, from £10 10s to &22 10s. Wool, hides and skins : A good many hides were pitched, but principally mediums. Heavy weights were scarce. Pelts are being substituted for skins, and consequently the latter are being brought forward in limited numbers. There is an upward tendency in the value of tallow. Wool scarcely reached the expectations of vendors. We quote : Cowhides, from 3d to 3hd ; ox hides, 3^d to 4{d ; calf skins, 3d to <Ud per lb. ; sheepskins, 2s lOd to 5s 3d each"; tallow, £13 10s to £14 13s per ton; small lots of wool, bid per lb. Cattle : A good many fat beasts have been brought forward, but few stores, and an average number of dairy cows. Prices for fat oxen declined fully 20.* per Lead, but other descriptions were unaltered in value. Barely an average number of beasts were yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday, but few stores, and the usual number of dairy cows. The latter were unaltered in value, but fat beasts declined fully os per 1001b. Sheep were yarded on Tuesday in fully average numbers, and were without alteiation in value. Limbs were in excels of requirements, and sold at from 7s ()d to 12a b'd. Pigs : Scarce, but there was no advance in value.
