ACTRESS AND MILLIONAIRE.
New York circles are just now much concerned in the marriage of Miss Edith Kingdom, an actresa of Daly's company, which recently appeared at the Strand theatre, to the eldest son and heir of Jay Gould, the millionaire. A New York correspondent says :— A very few privileged friends were invited up to Mr Goulds summer residence rtn tiie Hudson, on Sept. 24, to attend the wedding. The news of it came like a bomb into theatrical circles the next day. And then it came out that this marriage \va9 only a mock affair to quiet scandal ; that the couple were really married in London last summer when Miss Kingdom was playing there ; that young Mr Gould went •ver to England for that purpose, and then a few weeks ago came back and told his father about it ; that Mr Gould, sen.., who all along
has been vigorously opposed to the affair, stormed, it ia fair to presume. The second wedding wa* his idea. Another authority says: "It is understood that Mr Gould, sen., made the event an occasion for the presentation to his son of a guaranteed income large enough to make it certain that the young couple will never have to take in pl.iin sewing and copying. The couple go on the steam yacht Atalanta for their bridal tour."
