GUILLOTINING ARAB MURDERERS.
An Exchange company's telegram from Paris says ; — Telegrams have been received here stating that two Arabs who had been convicted of murder were guillotined recently at Oran. The execution created a great sensation among the native population, the act of decapitation being an outrage on the Mussulman leligion. The natives who witnessed the execution were in a state of great excitement, and shrieked with horror when the sentence was carried into effect.
The death is announced of Colonel Duncan Macpherson, of Cluny, the chief of a Highland clan, aged 53. He was colonel in the 42nd Highlanders, fought at the relief of Lucknow, in Ashantee, and at Tel-el-Kebir. Between 800 and 1000 men have received a month's notice to terminate contracts at Cymmer, Rhondda valley. The coal trade depression in South Wales is extending. At Dowlais Ironworks, Glamorganshire, on Wednesday, a fireman named James Warren, who had been drinking and received that > morning his discharge, fell under an engine and was decapitated. Charles Butterby. an old and faithful servant of the Queen, died recently at Windsor. The deceased was for mauy years connected with the Royal yacht.
Tfje Empress Augusta, wife of the German Emperor, attained her 7oth year of the 30 ult., her Majesty having bpen born on Sept. 30, 1811. She is the daughter on the late Grand Duke Karl Friedrich of Saxe- Weimar, by his marriage with the Grand Duchess Marie, daughter of the late Paul 1., Gsir of Russia. Her marriage with the German Emperor, then Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, was solemnized on June 11, 1829, the issue of the union being a son (the Crown Prince of Germany) and a daughter (the Grand Duchess of Baden).
