THE WAIPA COUNTY CHAIRMANSHIP.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Having read the Herald correspondent's remaiks ro the vacancy likely to occur in the Waipa County Council by the resignation of Mr Y. C. Germann, chairman, and the likelihood of Mr Teasdale being his successor to that digmtied position, and being also informed of the magnitude of th.it gentleman's qualifications and business capacity, allow me to suggest the advisability of not only appointing him as chairman, but sole administrator of the county council and engineer into the bargain. Do you doubt hia engineering capabilities ? I point you to works performed, which have been mostly under In* own supervision. Regarding the funds being judiciously expended, I refer you, as nn instance, to the Te Awamutu and Kihikihi road, on which, I believe, some £400 or £500 have been spent during the last three or four years. The condition of the road last winter speaks for itself as to the good work done. But I am afraid, as long as the county council exists, there will have to be large demands made on the funds of the county, as the township could not exist without large expenditure on roads (or rather the storekeepers could not). Seeing, therefore, the advisability that the funds should not be idle in the coffers of the county, I do think that the ratepayers could not do better than elect that gentleman of such rare business capabilities, and ha\ing such broad and comprehensive views in matters affecting the interests of Te Awamutu, to the high and dignified position of chairman and sole administrator of the Waipa County Council. In conclusion, I would ask my fellow-ratepayers to awake, and when the time comes do their duty. — I am, yours obediently, Lux. Te Awamutu, November 16th. 1886.
