NATIVE NEWS.
(b'ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Alexandra, November 15. The tangi over Te Kata Tv Tawhiao, T.»whiao's son, is still,' going on at Whatiwhatihoe ; there are several hundreds of natives now present, and more are continuously arriving. Tawhiao is present himself, the whole time to mourn with all who come. The strain must be very great on the old man, and he shews it. He made one speech to the Waikatos, in which he lamented the loss of their lands, and expressed his intention of shortly proceeding to Wellington. I notice in your paper that Mr George Brown and Wahanui have come to an arrangement, the latter astute chief to be elected for the present \acancy in the Western Maori District, and subsequently to retire when he is called to the Upper House in Mr Brown's favour. Is it certain he will be called ? It has been said ho refused the offer when made. His election is not quite a certainty, as Major Te Wheoro will have the support of Tawhiao, who has sent a circular letter to all his friends supporting the Major's candidature. Henry Kaihau is here, at Whatiwhatihoe, not forgetting to look after his interest in the election, so that there is likely to be a close contest.
