YESTERDAY'S FROST.
-* — • A hkavy frost in the middle of the month of November is, not «a usual thing, and the visitation of yesterday morning lends colour to the generally-expiessad bolief that the climate of Waikato is suffering a change. The frost was remarkably seveie. Most of the gardens in Hamilton and the crops in the vicinity were touched up, especially those in low-lying situations ; such as were on high ground escaped with very little damage. Potatoes, pumpkin I*,1 *, melons and bean.s weie the greatest autferei s, but other vegetable* shared m the destruction in a greater or leaser degree. From Cambridge we learn that many of the potato, bean, and gourd crops are utterly i uined. A correspondent, wilting from Te Awamutu, says:— "We had a very severe frost last night. Tne ground was as white as in mid-vinter. I got up before sunrise and watered the potatoes, but it was of no avail. They are cut to the ground. Some of them were in blossom, so you may imagine my feelings at .seeing them ruined. To give you some idea of the sevoiity of the fiObt, I may .say that some beans of the kidney variety were effectually killed, the frost going through some thin sacking with which they were coveied. I sa\ed the greater portion by ha\ing thick sacks over them ; also sivocl pumpkins, marrows, &c. I saw Edwin's wire to e\pect frost, so I took precautions accordingly. I had a nice lot of potatoes, and they are comp'etely ruined."
The bankruptcies of B. Montague, Waiorongomai, and C. Day, Hautapu, aio closed.
