CHKISTCHUKCH, Thursday. Tne body of Emma Stewart, the last of the young people who were accidentt'ly drowned on Tuesday, was recovered thi° afternoon in time for an inquest to he held upon it, immediately after the conclusion of the inquest on the bodies of the two Miss Cottons and Miss Bounday. In both inquests verdicts of "Accidental d«\ith '" were returned. At the meeting of the Canterbury Woolcrrowers' Association, Mr J. L>. L-inix', M H R.,w-as le-elected president. A sum of £100 was guaranteed to the expenses of the wool and grain show. Some strong things were said re Shaw, Savill, and Co.'s monopoly in HaslanVs refrigerators, and probably a special meeting will be called to discuss this duestion.
INVERCARGILL, Thursday. A young man named F. H. Dale, a lettei -carrier, has been apprehended on a charge of stealing letters. It is said that between 400 and 500 letters have been found at his house.
WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Government have received information that the whole of the sheep m the Kaikoura district are now free from scab. The immigration and emigration returns for the colony for the last month were published to-night. The arrivals were : — From the United Kingdom, 625 ; New South Wales, 3SI ; Victoria, '231 ; Tasmania, 35 ; other places, 1)2 ; total, 1364. The departures were :— To the United Kingdom, SI ; Queensland, 4 ; Yew South Wales, 307 ; Victoria. 374; Tasmania. 54 ; other places, 42 ; total, SGI. The arrivals at the various ports were: At Auckland, 332 ; Wellington, 334 ; Napier, 2 ; Nelson, 1 ; Greymouth, I ; Lyttelton, 53 ; Dunedin, 364 ; Invercar^ill, 267. The departures were :—: — From the Kai;tai.i, 4 ; Auckland, 291 ; Wellington, 99 ; Napier, S ; Greymouth, II ; Lyttelton, 32, Ipvorcai pill, 416.
