Mr Dyer asked for plaintiff to be allowed two or three day*' expenses, as he was working on the railway at Otorohanga, and the Resident Magistrate having ruled that any case must be tried at the nearest covut to which the goods wore supplied, the plaintift had to come to Cambridge, and would consequently lose sseeral days' work. Judgment for plaintift for £'2 s*, and t'2 17s (id costs. William Wilson was charged with illtreating a bay mare by fastening a chain round its neck and dragging it along the road on the Oth instant. The police prosecuted, and defendant pleaded not guilty. — Constable Brennan stated that the defendant was bringing the mare fiom Oxfoid to Cambridge, and had it fastened behind hi* dray with a rope. At the junction of the (Kford and Waotu roads the rope hr«>ke. He then fastened it with a chain. When near Cambridge the mare had tumbled dowu, and had been dragged a consideiable distance on its side, rendering it unabie to rise. It lay there the whole of the night and following day, and eventually was destroyed. —After hearing the evidence the bench fined defendant £1 and 408 costs, or ho\cu days' imprisonment, the bench rental king that he was vpry much to blame. He was allowed a month in which to pay the fine.— Thia concluded the business.
