THE TE AWAMUTU SPORTS.

Tuksr events, which take place on the VV.«ipa Racing Club's course, To Awamutu, to morrow, promise to be eminently successful, that is t > say, if the weather, which has been so changeable of late, should provo favourable. There appears to be a very general feeling abroad that the liabilities of the old Waikato Turf Club should be wiped out, thereby removing a stigtna which has rested on the Waikato sporting community for a long time;' It is hoped, and there is a very fair prospe6t that funds sufficient to cover the whole liability will be raised. It will be fresh in the recollection of our readers that one member of the old club had recently to " stump up " £78, the amount of a P. N. given by the committee, and in addition to this there are outstanding debts amounting to something like £70. True lovers of racing will render a real service to the cau3e by putting in an appearance to-morrow. They are not asked to play the part of philanthropists simply, becuise the programme prepared will be quite sufficient to reward them for any trouble they may put themselves to. The events are numerous and raried in character, and thongh the prize money is not large, it has proved quite .sufficient to attract a goodly number of entries, and nil the events are likely to be keenly contested. The To Awamutu Cavalry Band, under the able conduct of Mr Sibley, will be in attendance to enliven the proceedings, and, as a fitting wind -up to the day's amusement, a ball will be held in the Te Awamutu Volunteer Hall, at which the Cavalry Band will also perform. Altogether it may safely be averred that those who go to Te Awamutu to-morrow will enjoy themselves thoroughly. No more pleasant way of paying old deWs could well have been devised, and the promoters deserve commendation for the wisdom they have displayed.
