NOTES FROM TAWHARE.
Mr Editou, do you know where theie lives an enterprising man who has the pood fortune to own a dingy ? If so, will you please advise him to come and ply for hire either on the Tawhire Flat or at the entrance of Scotchman's V.\lley. I believe he would make a good thing out of it, provided he did not charge "railway fares." Or better still, perhaps the road board might hire a punt, and with the profits got from it provide means for the water to get away by the end of the summer. Our dairy factory is now very busy. I hear that the milk supply has already reached 400 gallons daily. No cheese is made at present, but the manager turns out about 1401bs of butter every day. Tlio centrifugal separator continues to work well. It leaves something less than one per cent, of cream in the milk. Three more large pig paddocks are now being made, and I am i pleased to see that those already in nso, have been re-drained, for they have reminded us very forcibly at times that we were not exactly in a flower-garden. lam told that at a recent meeting of milk suppliers and managers it was resolved to reduce the price of milk to 3h<i per gallon. The reason for that was that the factory was not paying, I think, however, that when the coinpauy took a step so serious to the settlers they should have placed the balancesheet of the factory before the suppliers. On Sunday last the Rev. W. Evans prjached to one of the largest congregations that ever assembled in Tawhare School. There were over >>ixtv people present. A prayer meeting in connection with the Sunday-school was also held on that day. Our Young Men's Mutual Association has not yet met with the fate that some doubting ones prophesied for it. To the credit of the young 1 men be it said that they attend very well. We have found an excellent substitute for Mr Allen in Mr Foot. If those who think we are wasting our time at our fortnightly meetings will attend our public ones they may be led to see that they are mistaken.— (Occasional Correspondent, October 22,)
